The Life and death of MARTIN LUTHER KING

Napsal(a)

America: Dreams and Nightmares

On Tuesday October 20, 2015 we visited again a performance in the theatre in Pardubice performed in the English language.

This time it was a real histotical excursion: it started with the bus boycott in the city of Montgomery, Alabama in 1955-56, when Rosa Parks, a black woman refused to stand up on the bus because of a white man passenger who wanted to have her seat. With this she broke the law and was arrested. This event. started the almost 1-year long bus boycott (black citizens didn´t use the buses in Montgomery) and set the beginning of protests against the segregation led by M.L.King.

In the performance we went through Martin´s life, we got to know his friends, his wife, the reporter bringing all the news about this movement into TV, we could see also an FBI agent proving, that King was followed all the time. We could hear part of King´s famoust speech „I have a dream“ and in the end we witnessed his killing and dying in the armload of his friends in 1968.

The „American Drama Group Europe“ (www.adg-europe.com ) convinced us about their professionality,it was a dynamic piece of physical theatre , it combines documentary realism with stylisation, masks and songs. The result is a challenging drama that doesn´t allow you to get bored for almost 2 hours.
